"Our stay at the Pioneer House was cozy, peaceful, and fun. We always enjoy an adventure and staying in a restored and refurbished farmhouse was a new experience for us and did not disappoint. We entertained ourselves in the evening playing games by lamplight and we slept cozy under the bed covers. In the morning we were able to fire up the stove (with detailed instructions from Walton) and prepare coffee and biscuits. Such a feeling of tranquility and amazement as we sat on the porch early in the morning, surrounded by the farmland, woods, and nearby horses. We highly recommend a stay at the Pioneer House, we plan on returning, perhaps renting an additional house at Willlet Ponds for a North Carolina family reunion. And as many mention in their reviews, the hosts, Betty and Walton, are exceptional hosts: kind, helpful, and informative. " --- Beth Cramer, Boone, NC

'Staying at the Pioneer House was one of the best experiences of my life.  I am no longer intimidated by the thought of no electricity, indoor plumbing, or Wi-Fi.  In fact, I would consider doing something like this again.  It was a very refreshing and fun experience.  Interacting with the animals, whether it was feeding chickens, petting dogs, moving rabbits or watching the horses from the front porch, was a highlight for me.  I know having animals is a lot of work, but it is fun too.   I hope to have a lot of animals when I grow up."
